Kim Hoa Ngô is a Vietnamese American costume designer whose work reflects both depth and versatility across film, television, and multimedia. Recently, Kim contributed to The Sympathizer, the Emmy-nominated HBO/A24 series starring Hoa Xuande, Robert Downey Jr., and Sandra Oh. She also costume designed the Luu Brothers’ short film, The Technicians, which won Best Short at the Viet Film Festival and is qualified for consideration in the 97th Academy Awards. Her work on The Accidental Getaway Driver, directed by Sing J. Lee, played a vital role in the film’s Best Director win at Sundance 2023, where her designs enhanced character and narrative with subtle, impactful detail.

Kim's career includes four years of contributions to NBC's This Is Us, with particular recognition for her design work on the Vietnam Unit in Seasons 3 and 4. Her portfolio reflects global reach and genre diversity, from Orphan: First Kill, named one of the "Best Horror Films to Watch" by The Hollywood Reporter, to award-winning indie projects such as The Persian Connection and Arcadia. Additionally, her designs on Take My Wife, featuring comedians Cameron Esposito and River Butcher, underscore her dedication to designing for varied perspectives and communities.

Beyond her work in film and television, Kim's recent projects include a vibrant holiday commercial for Sonos, a multimedia campaign for DoorDash and LAFC, and an international commercial for Taco Bell. Her experience spans a diverse array of media, reflecting her adaptability and ability to enhance storytelling through costume design across platforms.

Education, Background & Affiliations

Kim began her journey in costume design at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas and further pursued her passion with a degree in Theater from the University of Texas at Austin. Now based in Southern California, she brings thoughtful, impactful designs to each project and embraces opportunities to travel wherever her work takes her. She is a proud member of the Costume Designers Guild, the Motion Pictures Costumers Union, and the Television Academy.
